The Most Fun You’ll Have on Zoom!
Zoom Trivia Logistics:
Capacity: Lucky Guess has an unlimited Zoom account, so we can accommodate any sized group, although there may be additional charges for more than 50 players!
Accessing Zoom: Participants will receive the link for the Zoom game (with password, if requested) 48 hours before the game.
Submitting Answers: All answers are submitted and tracked through a Google Form, which will also be sent out before the game alongside the Zoom link.
Making Teams: For most virtual trivia events, teammates are in different physical locations. This means that teammates must figure out a way to communicate outside of Zoom to discuss their answers (FaceTime, Google Hangouts, Slack, etc.). Breakout rooms are an option, but this option eliminates the use of song clues, which you can read more about here. The standard for players per team is 6, both virtually and in-person, but that is mostly up to the event coordinator.
Okay but like, Zoom Trivia? Is it fun?
I started hosting virtual trivia for some close friends and family in March of 2020, for obvious reasons, and it immediately became my escape. It had been years since I had a weekly trivia gig in Boston (shout out to the weekly players at Clarke’s in Faneuil Hall and Orleans in Somerville!), and I had forgotten how much fun I had hosting. And in this virtual setting, playing with a familiar crowd, I had a lot of freedom to shake off the rust and work out the kinks of the new format.
And I don’t know how to say this without sounding boastful, but I’ve gotten very good at hosting virtual trivia.
About 10 weeks into playing, I started charging $5 or $10 per person, whatever people could afford. I felt like my games were fun enough that people wouldn’t mind paying, but I still didn’t feel great about taking money from friends and family. So all the money went to charity: No matter the amount, the top 3 teams to choose where it went. At the time of this writing, we’ve raised $7,362 for a litany of cool charities, progressive political campaigns, GoFundMe’s, etc.
